Team assessment tools for coaches compared

For coaches and consultants who run team diagnostics with clients. Facets’ team survey beside seven tools sold through coaches: who rates whom, what certification costs, what measuring again costs, and the published prices.

Checked against each vendor’s public pages on . Sources at the foot.

What to compare

Whichever diagnostic you choose, check these before you certify or buy.

  • Who rates whom. Some diagnostics ask members about the team as a whole; others rate each person. A team view opens a conversation about the team; individual ratings let each person see how teammates experience them.
  • What certification costs, and whether you need it. Count what the price includes, such as assessments or runs, how long it takes, and whether you can order the tool without it.
  • What it costs to measure again. A second measure after coaching is how you and the client see change. Ask whether it is included or priced per team or per person, and how soon it can run.
  • The team size it is built for. Very small teams make results easy to trace to a person; large ones blur into a department. Check the range against the teams you coach.
  • Working with clients. Ask who owns the client's data, whether you work inside the client's own account, and whether your practice's name can appear on what the team sees.
  • Credits and norms. If you renew an ICF credential, check the continuing-education credits a certification carries. If you want norms, ask how the comparison sample was drawn.

Where Facets is different

  • Every member rated by every teammate. On a team of 3–12, each member is rated by every teammate on 16 behaviors in 8 dimensions, rates themselves, and predicts how they were rated. The team also answers 34 core climate statements; each person gets a private note, and the team gets a pack.
  • The debrief, run in the product, and what the team leaves with. The debrief agenda runs about two hours, built from the team's results, and you can run it in the product with a timer per section and a vote between the two proposed commitments. Since 29 October 2026, the team leaves with a working agreement (its commitments, who owns each, and the norms it writes) and each person can choose which behavior to work on. A pulse about six weeks on is included, and the next run is compared with this one.
  • Optional certification, with team runs included. Certification is optional: $1,295 once, with 6 team runs included. It is seven self-paced modules, an exam of 25 questions with 20 to pass, and a practicum with a real team; nothing in the product is locked behind it.
  • The Practitioner plan, and client workspaces the client owns. The Practitioner plan is $89 a month with 4 team runs a month, then $75 a run, unlimited Leadership 360s, and 25% off list on engagement cycles you run for clients. On it, each client can have a workspace of its own, which the client owns, and your practice's name and logo appear beside Facets' attribution, which stays on every page.
  • A program report and a facilitator's kit. For a client whose owners turn it on, the program report is one page you read with them: who took part, what each team decided and did, and how the teams moved together, in numbers pooled across teams. The facilitator's kit, in the app's guides, has a debrief checklist, scripts for the hard moments and an activity for each climate scale.

When another tool fits better

Where each of these may suit you better, from what its own pages say.

  • 6 Team Conditions. A coach who needs ICF continuing-education units earns 18 by completing 6 Team Conditions' Levels 1 and 2. Its Pulse Check re-measures a team in about two minutes a member, at a published price per team.
  • Fearless Organization Scan. The Fearless Organization Scan compares a team's results with global benchmarks. Anyone can order the team survey without certification, and a partner directory helps clients find a practitioner.
  • The Five Behaviors. The Five Behaviors pairs the team assessment with each member's DiSC style, for intact teams of 5 to 12. Clients can find an authorized partner by country.
  • The Table Group. The Table Group's assessment is priced per person, and a Progress Report at the same price measures the team again. Its Five Dysfunctions certification includes 10 assessment licenses, and its Working Genius certification carries 9 ICF continuing-education credits.
  • Team Coaching International. TCI's certification carries 52.5 ICF continuing-education credits and includes a pre and post Team Diagnostic for one team.
  • Belbin. Belbin has observers rate each person's team roles, for a coach who wants individual profiles as well as a team view. Accreditation is recommended rather than required, and reports are sold one at a time.
  • Leadership Circle. BRITE can be ordered without accreditation, at one price for a team of any size. Its certifications carry 6 or 16 ICF continuing-education credits.

What Facets does not do

  • Facets certification carries no ICF continuing-education credits yet; a completion letter is available on request.
  • Facets offers no norms, by decision: a team is compared with its own last run, rather than with a sample of other teams you cannot inspect.
  • There is no white-label, by decision: your practice's name and logo appear beside Facets' attribution, never in place of it.
  • Facets' team survey runs in English only.

Questions

What is a team diagnostic?
A survey of one team about how it works together, read with the team in a debrief. Some rate the team as a whole; in Facets every member is rated by every teammate, rates themselves and predicts their ratings.
How much does a team assessment cost per team?
Units differ: per team, per person or per report, and certification may come first. A Facets team survey is $199 a run for one team of 3–12 people, or $349 for a year of runs.
Do I need to be certified to run a team assessment?
It depends on the tool. Facets certification is optional: seven modules, an exam and a practicum, with six team runs included. Nothing in the product is locked behind it, and anyone can run a team survey.
Do team members rate each other individually?
In Facets, yes. On a team of 3–12, each member is rated by every teammate on 16 behaviors, rates themselves and predicts their ratings. No account can read another person's ratings as written; each person gets a private note.
How do you measure a team's change after coaching?
Measure again, with the same questions where you can. Facets includes a short pulse about six weeks after the results, and a team's next run is compared with its last, with a change marked only when it is reliable.
